Architectural Design Studio 1 [ARC60105]
Architectural Design Studio is a class where we learn about how to design things that fulfill our objectives and uses.
Project 1: Self-Expression through Object ‘Representing Me’
This project is where we design a mask, hat or gloves that can represent us. We started by exploring our personality and finally choose the main personality as our theme for our design.
Objectives of Project:
- To explore different possibilities of generating ideas thorough rigorous design processes.
- To explore various approaches in translating ideas and abstracting translation and interpretation.
- To explore varied forms of artwork in communication and expression of self and its sense.
- To enhance ability not only in sketching but in crafting three dimensional design or art form.

Through this project, I was able to understand myself a bit more. I was also able to make my ideas abstract and present it in a different form.
Project 2: Self Expression through Architectural Space "Pavillion"
In this project, we are divided into groups of 7. We were then to choose a member to be the user of our Pavilion. We have to use the body dimension of our user and make a 1:1 model that is able to stand and use.
Objectives of Project:
- To further the student’s concern about elementary user needs
- To introduce and create an awareness of the scale and proportion of the human body.
- To create how human anthropometry and ergonomics relate shape the space.
- To introduce the role of human behaviour in shaping the space and dictating activities.
- To introduce basic design principles and terminologies on deciding spatial and form configuration.
- To create and work on full scale installation in order to further visualize efficiency, functionality, quality of space and articulation form.

Through this project, we learnt the importance of team work and time management. We wont be able to complete our Pavilion without these two. We were also learnt how to show a person's personality in an abstract way.
Project 3: Dream space for the User ‘Hideout’
In this project, we are the user. We are to design a hideout that matches our personality and requirements. The hideout is sandwiched between two abandoned buildings. We were allowed to choose our own imaginary site of where the hideout would be.
Objectives of Project:
- To further the students ability to create and develop a conceptual narrative.
- To introduce and create awareness in understanding the dimensional requirements of the human body (anthropometrics and ergonomics).
- To explore and apply basic design principles and terminologies.
- To further the student’s ability to create and develop a conceptual narrative
- To be able to consider objective and subjective parameters in the design process to create a space this is practical yet poetic.
- To explore how the selection and application of materials in relation to the sensory experience of space.
- To be able to select and make different study models (sketch, concept, diagram, section and development models)

This is quite a challenging project for me. I had to dig deeper to understand who I really am and what I would want to do in my hideout. Thankfully, I was able to discover myself and design a hideout I really want to have.
